Effective control and ongoing management
The Humane Rat Trap is a very effective outdoor rodent control method. It is used throughout New Zealand in their attempts to eradicate introduced rats such as the Norway rat (Rattus norvegicus) also called the brown rat, common rat, street rat, sewer rat or water rat and the Roof rat (Rattus Rattus) also called the ship rat, black rat, common rat or house rat.
The humane rat trap can kill rats without compromising other indigenous predators as has been the case with large scale rodent baiting programs in Australia (links to 76 page PDF 1.2MB).
The rat inspects the non-toxic lure and a pin is released at a speed that instantly kills the rat. The pin automatically resets and the dead rodent can be removed by either the householder or a natural predator such as a bird or lizard.
The humane rat trap is non-toxic, safe, effective and painless.

Example of how not to lay a rat bait by placing rat poison within an unsafe distance to dry dog food
You may have noticed increased rat or mice activity on your property or in your home in the colder months because rodents seek out warmer shelters to nest and to breed.
They are, after all mammals like us. Once they get settled they can breed at an alarming rate: for the rat approx. 5 - 10 young per litter; 3 - 6 litters a year with a gestation period of about 3 weeks and 12 - 16 weeks from birth to sexual maturity. That makes for a lot of rats. The damage caused by rats can be fire from gnawing electrical wiring, water damage from gnawing water pipes in ceilings and product damage in shops and storage facilities. Remember: most insurances do not cover damage caused by vermin such as termites or rats.
